July Paintings!

Last months paintings were put in two parts, but this time we are just gonna display them all at once!

In the beginning of 2015, I developed the plan to paint five new paintings every month. I have kept up with this plan, and this month is going so well I’m already working on August Paintings!

“Evening Song” Painting by Cathy Carey 2015©

“Evening Song”

Oil on linen 24″ x 20″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

There is a little valley along the Rio Grande, that is a beautiful little farming community, I imagined this little adobe church there, snug by the river, in a grove of dancing orchards. My original drawing was done from the Southwest Chief train I rode out one year from Solana Beach, CA to Santa Fe, NM. It was an overnight train, with a full moon shining in my window all the way and I drew and watercolored at every stop and places of note in between. This painting is headed for The Ranch at Taos Gallery, for my October Solo exhibition, reception October 10 from 5 – 7pm.  A Roma black matte frame is available for $150.

“Chamisa Dance on the Mesa” Painting by Cathy Carey 2015©

“Chamisa Dance on the Mesa”

Oil on linen 24″ x 20″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

Seeing the beautiful flat topped mesa surrounding Taos mountain is always thrilling to me when I come into town. When the Chamisa blooms in the fall, it is a rapturous sight to behold! Heralding the autumnal season  with the welcoming aroma of roasting chiles and pinon in the air, the high altitude makes for deep wonderful colors, and views that go on forever. This painting is headed for The Ranch at Taos Gallery, for my October Solo exhibition, reception October 10 from 5 – 7pm.  A Roma black matte frame is available for $150.

“Aspiring Aspens” Painting by Cathy Carey 2015©

“Aspiring Aspens” (above)

Oil on linen 30″ x 30″ $2100 unframed

Magical Aspens that dapple sidewalks, catch the light and flicker, winking yellow in the wind. The high country in the Southwest is always an amazing place to find yourself, but my favorite time of year is fall. Maybe because I was born in September, but the shorter days and cooler breath of the wind as the days turn from summer, are like a home coming to me. I feel my spirit loosen, and the imaginary wings on my back unfurl to catch a ride on a western wind. This painting is headed for The Ranch at Taos Gallery, for my October Solo exhibition, reception October 10 from 5 – 7pm.

“Grande Orchards” Painting by Cathy Carey 2015©

“Grande Orchards”

Oil on linen 20″ x 24″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

Down by the Rio Grande there is a charming valley that shelters a beautiful little farming community. I see it every year I am out in that area and always stop to take pictures and draw. I combined several visions of lovely lands along the rivers way to make up this scene. One of my favorite things are the beautiful Cottonwood trees that always grace the rivers edge. The beautiful patterns of foliage and scrub, erosion and meadows, make such pretty designs to contemplate. I also love the shapes of the topography in this part of the Southwest, the flat topped mesas and mountains carved from erosion. This painting is headed for The Ranch at Taos Gallery, for my October Solo exhibition, reception October 10 from 5 – 7pm. A Roma black matte frame is available for $150.

“Gorgeous Gorge” Painting by Cathy Carey 2015©

“Gorgeous Gorge”

Oil on linen 20″ x 24″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

This view from the bridge has to be the most dramatic angle of the Rio Grande Gorge! I first saw it in 2000, on my original trip to Taos, and was so amazed driving up to it – you don’t see it until you are almost on it! Suddenly the flat land opens up and dives down into this valley created not by the river, but by earth movements as the two massive adolescent plates pushed and shoved past each other. This painting is headed for The Ranch at Taos Gallery, for my October Solo exhibition, reception October 10 from 5 – 7pm. A Roma black matte frame is available for $150.
