Vision Quest explores the moment when seeing becomes awareness. Set within the desert landscape, the painting considers perception not as a passive act, but as a reciprocal relationship between ourselves and the world around us.
An eye emerges within the landscape as a symbol of consciousness, suggesting that while we observe nature, nature is also looking back. The illuminated pyramid becomes a structure of attention, gathering and directing awareness, while pathways, patterns, and shifting color suggest the invisible systems connecting all living things.
The painting asks us to consider how much of reality we simply encounter and how much we participate in creating through attention, interpretation, and expectation.
Vision Quest became a pivotal work in my Systems of Awareness series and helped establish the visual language I continue to explore: perception, interconnectedness, emergence, and the mystery of consciousness.
