Eyes of the Beholder explores the shifting relationship between perception and the natural world. Within a landscape alive with color, pattern, and movement, unexpected eyes emerge as moments of awareness, suggesting that seeing is not a one-way act.
We look at nature, but nature also looks back.
The eyes invite us to notice how attention changes experience. What we perceive is shaped by where we focus, what we expect, and what we bring with us. Patterns connect across the landscape, suggesting the larger networks and relationships that exist beneath what we immediately see.
Part of my Systems of Awareness series, this painting considers perception as a reciprocal exchange. We are not separate observers standing outside the natural world. We are participants within it, influencing and being influenced by the living systems around us.
What we choose to see shapes the world we live in.
