I am in Santa Fe to teach a workshop next week, and had to take down a show at the Fairmont El Corazon yesterday. It was a great venue, nice people, and a perfect setting for my paintings. When we finished, my friend Russell and I headed up to Taos to find a new gallery. It was a beautiful drive and gorgeous day.

We visited The Ranch Gallery in Taos on Kit Carson, and met Lanna Smith, and learned the gallery showcases the artwork of musicians and music. Also an outlet for Michael Martin Murphey chuckwagon shows and selling the cds of Syd Masters, my very favorite singing cowboy musician. The artist Tracy Turner is also featured here, and her paintings are gorgeous color songs of the high country.
The Ranch at Taos Gallery
Lanna was very enthusiastic about my work and invited me to show in the gallery – starting that afternoon for the Saturday Taos Gallery walk. Russel and I blasted back down the highway to Santa Fe and got the paintings, and headed back and made it in time for the evening show!
I think my paintings fit in really well in this gallery. I want my pictures to create in viewers a sense of joy and exhilaration – the kind of feeling I get from the music I listen to when I paint. My go-to playlist for my Santa Fe studio is Syd Masters and the Swing Riders, I think I have every CD. My favorite song is his “Under New Mexico Skies”. I love the images in that song! In my paintings, I want the movement and interaction of colors and shapes to feel like the rhythm of swirling swing music, and the pulse and sway of dancers.
