August Paintings!

Just in time for the beginning of a new month, here are the paintings for August. I am currently working on Septembers paintings now!

Traveler by Cathy Carey 2015©

Oil on linen 30″ x 24″ $1800 unframed $1950 framed

The magical Sonoran desert of Tucson, AZ is the scene of this painting of Jack Rabbit on the move! I love the ears and feet on Jack rabbits, so when I draw them using a blind contour technique, they always come out with a little extra personality! This white jack rabbit – knowing and wise – pauses a moment before scampering off to the tea party.

Twilight Aspens by Cathy Carey 2015©

Oil on linen 20″ x 24″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

Twilight is my favorite times of day up in the aspen forests above Santa Fe. The shadows lengthen and the sky turns amazing turquoise colors as it dips into azure, indigo and deep purples of night. The flickering golden colors of the aspen leaves shimmer in the changing light, and it creates a magical stage setting for evening to arrive.

Heavenly Chimayo by Cathy Carey 2015©

Oil on linen 20″ x 24″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

Santurario De Chimayo is a beautiful little church out between Santa Fe and Taos, along the “high road”. It is famous for being the “Lourdes” of the southwest, many people come to this rustic church for the miraculous dirt, believed to have healing power. I have always felt the healing properties of this special place, and always stop by on my way to Taos. Over the years it has changed a lot, but still maintains a folk art kind of charm to the buildings and artwork that make it feel so genuine. The healing grace of Chimayo for me has to do with more than the dirt, it is also the sun and sky, the mountains and stars, the whole spinning, dancing wonderland of life that I find myself in.

Where the River Speaks to the Sky by Cathy Carey 2015©

Oil on linen 20″ x 24″ $1200 unframed $1350 framed

Along the Rio Grande there are many wonderful little villages and towns engaged in farming. The patterned tapestry of fruit trees and farm to table produce happily thriving in the rich soil always makes me smile. I am so aware of the sky and river when I am in this area. The thunderhead clouds of summer mornings giving way to afternoon monsoonal rains, that fill up the arroyo’s and river beds. Out in these beautiful back country areas, the whistling  wind and gurgling river keep up a sunny conversation as they tumble through the land of enchantment.

Somebody New to Love by Cathy Carey 2015©

Oil on linen 30″ x 24″ $1800 unframed $1950 framed

The title of this painting is about the thrill of a new family member! From the moment you meet them you know you will love and protect them forever. I have watched two family members start new families the past year and their joy has inspired me. Dedicated to Carden and Sammy Carey.
