I am inspired by the light and shadows of Southern California, ocean, aquatic life, the flowers, landscapes and architecture. My paintings are about the colors and patterns of these things as seen and felt in images I have of myself and the world. They are remembered visions of the places I have been. I enjoy distortion and changing the perspective of things; altering reality allows me to interpret my memory and add my feelings of a place to the vision of its factual appearance. I heighten the coloring, patterns, light and shadows to express my moods and feelings. I am describing my internal landscape each time I paint. I am showing you a vision of something I have seen in my thoughts. The feelings I have that I can't communicate with words, the way the sky looks at sunset, the softness of the stars on a big moon night, the patterns of shadows on a desert-sun day. I can only fully witness these feelings and images in paint, the visions that visit me and compel me to paint.
